Self Confidence
My first post seemed kind of dreary, so I’d like to address that and try to analyze it.
My current theory is it has to do with self-confidence. A part of me feels that I’m somehow unable to accomplish what I set out to do; it’s too hard, or too big a project, or too much work - but that’s not true. If I had the self-confidence - the mindset that “Yes, I can do this” - then it would be much easier to get moving. People have done these things before, so why can’t I?
So how do I move forward with more self-confidence?
As I stated in my last post, I can accomplish hard things, it just depends on what it is. When I dove into disc golf this year, I had all the confidence in the world that I could, and would, get better and better. Now I simply need to apply some principles to other areas of my life that I want to pursue.
Here are some simple ideas that I need to apply when it comes to self confidence.
- I need to know that it’s ok to make mistakes - They will 100% happen
- I need to know that I can succeed - It’s possible to do these things
- I should concentrate on doing it for me, not for anyone else
Self confidence also seems to correlate directly with the current mood that I’m in. If I’m feeling down or depressed, self confidence will be very low; but if I’m full of energy and ready to take on the world, it’s very high.
Another key idea, for me, is to try and figure out how to stay in better moods. I’ve always said that the more energy I actually have, the better mood that I’m in. Most of the time, I’m pretty low on energy - so the solution I’ve always said was to just get more exercise (to get more energy). But I’m now realizing that’s not the whole picture. It also definitely has to do with my mind-set at the time. Having a good mind-set can improve almost everything - and that ties in to self confidence too.
So enough talk about our low motivation, let’s go get stuff done.
